SHOOGLE Play today's board

How to play Shoogle

Shoogle is a free daily word game played with letter dice. One board a day, the same board for everyone, and a game takes a few minutes.

Roll the dice

Press SHOOGLE and twelve letter dice tumble onto the felt, then settle themselves into a neat row so you can read them. You never have to sort them yourself.

Spell words to spend dice

Tap dice to spell a word of three letters or more, then press Play to score it. Each die is worth the small number in its corner, and a word scores the sum of its dice. Spent dice leave the table for good.

The Qu die counts as two letters, so it can make a three-letter word with just one other die. The gold die is wild: you choose the letter it becomes, and it is worth zero points.

Use your three shoogles

You get three shoogles a game. Press SHOOGLE when there is room on the felt and it draws fresh dice from the bag of forty. Press it on a full table and it simply reshuffles the dice you already have, which costs you nothing and often shakes a new word loose.

The bag holds forty dice in total, so spending your dice down before you shoogle draws in more of them.

Clear the table

Clearing the table is the whole point. Empty the felt at any stage and you take a Table Clear bonus of five, then carry on playing. Empty the last table, once no dice remain to be drawn, and you take the Clean Sweep bonus of fifteen. That is the best ending in the game.

Any dice still lying on the felt when you finish are subtracted from your score, so a clean table beats a clever word.

When you are stuck

Once no more dice can arrive, a small gauge appears above the table. Tap it and it tells you more: first how many words are left in a path to zero, then their lengths, then the letters they start with. It is there when you want it and silent when you do not.
